     EMD SW8 est un «Switcher» diesel fabriqué par General Motors Electro-Motive Division et General Motors Diesel entre septembre 1950 et février 1954. La puissance est fournie par un moteur EMD 567B 8 cylindres, pour un total de 800 ch (600 kW ). Au total, 309 de ce modèle ont été construits pour les chemins de fer américains et 65 pour les chemins de fer canadiens. À partir d'octobre 1953, un certain nombre de SW8 ont été construits avec le moteur 567BC ou 567C, ils sont notés dans la liste ci-dessous.
